during this snow bound day, i decided to try and improve my photography skills. so i took a few pics of finds found in 2009. in order they are

a nice little medieval buckle, with gilt edge
barrel keys
a 17th century cuff fastener
krauwinkel jettons, purse bar and georgian cartwheel penny and halfpennies
dagger chape, brooch, decorated buckle and a strange coinshape  with sundial markings
charles 2nd twopence, elizabeth 6d 3d and 1d, and james 1st pennies

2 nice buttons, a hawking whistle, thimbles - note the minute one on the right, and a lead dice.

Nice finds Alan - I like the dagger chape and the hawking whistle.

I have taken the liberty of trying to reduce the saturation and contrast on your hammereds to try and give them a more silver look. If you take them under natural light rather than with household bulb light or a flash all your finds should come up in true colours.

Just to carry Neils post a little further for any who don't already know, A domestic bulb gives off quite an intense yellow light, Your brain is quite clever in realising that the colour is wrong and automatically corrects your perception of it. (you can test this by placing  a piece of white and a piece of blue paper in front of you, now move close enough so that the blue paper fills your vision, after 1 minute move your vision to the white paper as you look at it you will realise it looks pink)   A camera however can't do this (although digital cameras will automatically alter colour balance slightly) and so accurately records the colour it sees. If like the photo of the hammered coins, you then shoot them against a blue background the camera will see the blue and try and correct it, thus moving the whole spectrum even further towards the red end.
As Neil says try and shoot in daylight or most digital cameras have a colour balance feature if yours doesn't them you can get an 80B filter which will correct tungsten light.
Some art shops sell blue bulbs that give out a perfect white light.

you have some nice finds there alan..... ;)...i try to take my pics in natural light....if it's raining outside at the time...i take them on the window sill inside, so i'm still using the natural light coming through the window.... ;)....byron
