Title: Yankees finds today!
Post by: Yankee on April 19, 2009, 12:26:56 AM
Well, I got to go out detecting today with the wife's permission of course. I got permission to hunt a old churches property. I found 3 U.S. wheat pennies oldest date 1943, a token, a old dog licence and a old really ornate button of some kind it is silver in color with religious symbols of some kind. I am unable to find any reference to the symbols meaning. The church was founded in 1863 it was Lutheran at that time. I tried my best to photo the items with my new 10MP camera I guess I need more practice!

Just out of interest Yankee, what are the oldest artefacts and coins you would expect to find in your part of the globe.

Nice finds Yankee, although i do get the odd old find i think the majority of finds i make are under 300 years old so not that much older than your 200 year old stuff  :)

Hey Yankee, don't knock your finds, we do find the occasional older item but if we all showed you the rubbish that we dig up to find it  ::) I expect I dig up at least 150pcs of rubbish to every one item that I can identify as being older than 200 years and the beach finds within the last 200 can be amazing!

I think all ancient "natives" lived in Wales! LOL My state has 3000 year old relics from a time called the Copper culture These items are off limits by law here in Wisconsin. They are copper tools made and used by Indians long ago. The penalty for removing these artifacts in my state are a $10,000 fine forfeiting your Detector and the auto that transported your detector to the sight as well as 6 months in prison. Here is info. on our copper culture in Wisconsin http://www.uwlax.edu/MVAC/PreEuropeanPeople/EarlyCultures/archaic_oldcopperculture.html (http://www.uwlax.edu/MVAC/PreEuropeanPeople/EarlyCultures/archaic_oldcopperculture.html)
