At last it's going through, they don't hurry themselves too much do they ?

Hopefully I will be in the area on that date and will call in to see how the system operates.  :)

Just a pity that I have no gold and silver to record!  :'(

There's nothing to see Chris, you just hand your finds in and get a receipt for them or pick up what you gave him previously.

I've got a couple of hammered coins, medieval weight, buckle and an unusual bronze hook shaped thing. Got a couple of annular buckles and a hammered to pick up.

Hey,Dungbeetle, does anybody ever post their finds to Mark?
I've still!got this (possible) silver Viking ring,Mark has seen photos of it,and shown photographs to a professor Redknapp, who is also very interested in seeing it in the flesh,so to speak!!
Photographs of the ring were also taken by the curator of the museum in HaverfordWest, and that was months ago.
Have you got any ideas??.....please.👍

I will be there Chris to pick up my roman brooch, it would be nice if he could give me some info on my Norman silver ring he has had for quite some time now but I doubt it very much.

Frank and Bills finds have gone to the coroner, so hopefully yours won't be long. Bring that son of yours with you, I haven't told him off for a while.

The object is a small post-medieval seal matrix which is engraved with a naked male Eros with a cherubic face facing foreward, holding bow and arrow, shown with one wing and a quiver extending behind the back.
The naked figure stands in a pasture of long vegetation.
The object, which is worn has not undergone any cleaning or restoration and is well in extent of 10% silver.
In terms of form and style the seal matrix is a well known early post medieval type.
The form of Eros is reminiscent of late 16th century representations of classical figures eg Plas Mawr, Conway
On the basis of style the matrix is late 16th or early 17th century in date and it is my opinion that it has at least 10% weight of precious metal which is at least 300 years old it is treasure under the treasure act of 1996

Denbighshire museums are interested in acquiring this item for their collections.

Nice write up. Bill, at least the process is under way even  if it's a bit slow. I hope it stays up here and doesn't disappear into some dark back room in Cardiff

Thanks for comments but do myself and landowner have a choice?
As I understand it, treasure trove "confirmation" means that if required, they can take it, but have to pay an agreed fair price, decided by the market or a market expert.
The value is secondary to me. If I thought it would remain local, and be exhibited within the region, I would willingly go down that route, provided the landowner agreed, and I think he would.
Lets wait and see, I am glad to find a little out regarding its origins etc

Hmm; do you think we will need a boat to get there?

Thanks to a prompt from Chris; just woke to find big puddles creeping up on the caravan and heard that Rhyl and Flint are possibly flooding. Oh, and some rail services are affected.

What a bloomin weekend; if it wasn't a bad back keeping off the beach, it was the rain or the tides.

Possible flooding in Rhyl isnt good as its still 1 hour to high tide and a Northerly wind just pushes on to the beach.

Not sure about Talacre. If it gets bad, we may not be able to get out. If we get out, we may not be able to get back in. Probably stay put and hope the caravan floats.  :)

Well Dungbeetle kindly handed some more items over to the flo on my behalf and picked up the items from last time, I'm chuffed with what information came back with the finds. 1 item was a decent chunk of an Iron age bracelet, 1 item was a 13th-15th C Dagger guard, 1 item was a lead seal matrix circa 12th-13 C, very happy!

I turned up a bit late today, but was nice to see the regular faces there and do understand that work takes a precedent for most people as its alright for this retired codger.
