Title: Re: what are these? Post by: Val Beechey on February 14, 2018, 09:45:15 PM Two very nice finds Andre. Top one is a commemorative medal but I can’t see enough detail to remind me what of.
The second is a really unusual and beautiful thimble, very old. Can you see a join in the top ? The really early ones were made in Germany (?) I think and were made and moulded in one piece. Fairly sure they dated as early as the 13th cent. But never seen One with a pattern so maybe a bit later. P.s. if you tap on pics they come up bigger and the right way up. Title: Re: what are these? Post by: Resurgam on February 16, 2018, 07:11:26 PM I thought thible also Val but thought the commemorative medal was Australian!
Sorry Andre :) Title: Re: what are these? Post by: Andre on February 18, 2018, 09:40:38 AM That’s cool!I thought the thimble was the end of an old walking stick.
Never seen a thimble with bumps, usually they are made with little holes. Must be very old Title: Re: what are these? Post by: Val Beechey on February 18, 2018, 03:30:29 PM Have you cleaned it yet ? What’s it made of, looks like it could be pewter. Might be worth a silver test.
My guess on age might be 17 to 18 hundreds and a keep sake gift rather than a working type. Title: Re: what are these? Post by: spaceonwhite on February 24, 2018, 04:35:05 PM Lovely thimble there mate :D Yeah I've been sick of all the waterlogged fields too >:(
