Post by: kencomet on July 03, 2015, 07:21:26 PM My other half attended her WI meeting yesterday in Tongwynlais, Cardiff, where the guest speaker was Chris Barker, the Deputy Curator of the Royal Mint Museum Llantrisant, a very informative talk was given to the ladies on the history of coin making, from hammered coins, and why coins were cut etc, to the present day coins.He also spoke of very rare coins and their values. (Has anyone got a 1933 penny). Chis informed the ladies that in 2016 a larger Museum would be opening at the Royal Mint, which the general public could visit, which would be very interesting and well worth visiting once opened.

Title: Re: Royal Mint Museum... Post by: probono on July 05, 2015, 08:37:41 PM I went round the royal mint with the South Wales & Mon Numismatic Society a few years ago - it was a great visit and we even got to see an 1933 penny - they think they have all of them bar one.
For those who are interested, the SW & Mon Numismatic Soc (Coin Club) is meeting tomorrow (Monday) at 8pm in the Malpas Unionist's Club (just off junction 26 M4, up the hill on the left). All are welcome - it's an auction night, so if you want to part with any of your finds (or buy some other coins and the like) come along. btw - I'm their president :D |
