The field I am detecting in at the moment is about a mile out of the village, you can see the church just under the bough of the tree! Dunno whether it's forty or fifty acres, the thing that bugs me is it would be ideal for a rally but the problem there is it is owned by the big estate ( had to sign a detecting agreement way back to get on their land), it is rented by a farmer, who rents the land that he farms off a trust (another signed agreement).
The trust was set up by a nurse who looked after one of the wealthy landowners and it was part of the estate at one time, It's all very complicated but I was lucky to obtain permission on both. Trouble with that is they won't let anyone else on the land, they just tell anyone asking that someone already has permission and they don't want anyone else on there.
At the moment this field is being used for haylage for racehorses, grown for one season only then reverts back to the planting cycle, as each cut is made I can get back on it for a couple of weeks and maybe over the winter, that's it for a few years then!
