Had a  club dig today in Gloucestershire, good turn out apart from the rain. Finds were a bit slow in coming up, but we did find 6 hammered, a Roman bell, a few bits of medieval and a nice gilded Saxon strap end.
The problem was we could only do the stubble fields as the rolled and seeded ground had been sprayed with a pre-emegence herbicide. Which means if you walk on it, it will break down the thin surface barrier, and the weeds will grow through.

We seem to have a much shorter time now where we can detect on seeded ground, before chemicals are applied.  Sad

Thats a stunning little strap end!
Bet them chemicals are also corrosive to artefacts too which means all the more reason to save them before they're destroyed completely.
