Title: My 1st Hammie for I.D.
Post by: Val Beechey on October 15, 2015, 07:35:05 PM
Hi Peter, can you confirm this for me. It's a bit battered  but the print around the outside helps.

I think it's Elizabeth1st sixpence abt.1573

Well, no I didn't do a jig  I  just stood there and kept saying over and over 'thankyou'   I still had a smile on my face when I got home.
John shouted through from the lounge, 'Do I need to send out the troops to carry in the gold' and I responded 'No but I could do with a guard for the Silver'.  I think he was as pleased for me as I was for myself.

Geoff I always said if there's one there and I walk over it....well I did today.   Hope you're right .

I,ve just raised a glass to celebrate your success. Well done Val,  now go back and search the area very thoroughly, on different frequencies.

What a result, best orgasm in years, allegedly, of course!!

Thank you Dungbeetle nice to be one of the gang at last.

Alan  :o  It was even more rewarding because I found it exactly where I said there was something on LIDAR.  I went today with the intention of griding (by eye) the area.  Difficult with my bad foot, I could see where I'd walked and it wasn't very strait. Looked like I'd been on the pop. Still it worked. Only just realised, it's another sixpence. I seem to have a thing for them, getting quite a collection now.

Very nicely done Val. I remember thinking "what's all this fuss about hammered silver"; a coins is a coin, after all is said and done. And then I found my first hammered Lizzie sixpence!  :o

What made it all the sweeter was that I winkled it out of the ground whilst using the EuroAce with the stock coil fitted and more upmarket machines had been swung over the same section of the field.

May the silver commence to flow for you. You deserve it.  ;)

Many thanks for all the congrats fellas. Hope you're all right and it's not a flash in the pan.  Only got a few days left on those fields now, they've already seeded again and I noticed one or two seeds were already germinating yesterday.  Not sure how the Owner feels about me tramping over his little babies, s'pose I'll have to ask.
On a brighter note, I will have access to some Maize fields shortly  ??? don't know if I'm impressed with that idea. Plus there are some smaller grass field further over (more walking).

Chris, I've always told myself the same. A coin is a coin, what's the fuss all about but I must admit, secretly, I really wanted to find one and I wanted a Lizzy but a shilling.  Praps next one eh  ::)

val , most of us will be on the maize fields soon, generally there will be areas where  there has been tractor trafic that is detectable with a normal coil or if not going down to a tiny coil you  would get between those pesky stalks

Peter is it a Lizzy 6d abt 1573  Shame it's seen a bit of traffic but it's still a hammie, at last.

Paul, I took a pici of one of the fields on my phone but can't figure out how to down load it  ::)  It really is my field of dreams. Deep ploughed, disked, PLANTED, and tilled to a fine tilth.  First time I've managed to get on a field like that but not for long.

David, not much choice on coils unless I go back to the Safari with the sharp shooter. I had the 11" with the Deus.

Ken, is 1 coin on a roll ? mind you I did find that little brooch last week, praps your right.

Wondering, I agree, but don't say I said so. ;)

Mark, It could be said I'm not a Hammie virgin any more  :-[ ;D

What size is it Val?

Title: Re: My 1st Hammie for I.D.
Post by: Val Beechey on October 16, 2015, 10:02:35 PM
Hi Peter.  Same size as all the other sixpences I've got.

Title: Re: My 1st Hammie for I.D.
Post by: Chef Geoff on October 16, 2015, 10:14:55 PM
Do you mean it's the same size as a milled pre-decimal sixpence? If so then it'll be a threepence a hammered sixpence is pretty big about the size of a 2p ;)

Post by: Val Beechey on October 17, 2015, 08:35:16 AM
Oh, right.  Thanks Geoff . Didn't think to check size when I was looking for I.D.

Doesn't  matter, it's still a Lizzy and hammered.   ;)
