hi all new to this forum recently bought a xp gold maxx power detector but am only use to having target id screens on my detectors so finding this machine hard to get my head around it if anyone on here has one and could give me a few tips hints that would be greatly appreciated and is there anyone from around colwyn bay area on this forum ?

Its a great machine the GMP, is yours the v.4 version ?

Basically its down to learning the audio, it'll take you a few months believe me, the thing you'll find is that the audio will kind of morph to a squeal the deeper the target, basically listen out for the iron sound and if there's any iron sound present at all, its probably iron at depth, if you get the deep sound and arent sure take a spade full out and see if the sound gets better or worse...  Beware though as Roman brooches can have a slight iron sound as well...  The way I used to run it was to weigh up the good sound and the iron, if it sounded a bit biased more towards the good sound I dug...  simple as that.

The iron knob can be viewed as setting the size of iron you want to accept, the auto setting is a good setting to learn the machine with though.

Coke tends to give a "zing" as does bits of wire fencing in my experience.

I'd also recommend a £30 straight shaft from Detecnicks, you wont regret it...

Stick with it, it will pay you back Wink

If its v4 from the factory it usually says inside the battery compartment, if not you have to dismantle the control box and look on the chip...

v3 has less tones I think and diferent audio response
