Before I tell my story I got to say a big thanks to Geoff, Neil and rob for another great day out. A day out I almost didn't make...
My day started bright and early, 6am to be exact. I decided to skip breakfast and have it on the road. By 6.30 I was ready to go, everything double checked and loaded into the car. Sat nav set up. 100 miles until I was swinging my coil. ( I live in Milford Haven for those who don't know.)
Skip an hour and I'm now starting to get hungry, so I pull over at the mcdonalds in Carmarthen. Damn. No bank card. Only a quarter tank of petrol. Twelve pound in my pocket. Iv got decisions to make. I need £7 pound for the rally, leaving me £5 for either food or a tiny bit of extra fuel. Decisions decisions. A battle between belly and mind. As usual the belly won!
Already running low on fuel, I needed to turn this drive into an economy run any Prius driving Hollywood celeb would be proud of. I think my top speed maxed out at 50! I even turned the heaters and radio off!
I got to the rally with the fuel gauge just about at the red. No hope of getting home. But not to worry about that yet. I had a days detecting ahead of me!
Must say I was not disappointed with the days hunting. A second piece of silver in as many days. My new coil is working wanders!
Time for the head home. 100 miles. No fuel. Adventure time. I even took my arial off this time to reduce drag
I felt like I was in a top gear challenge. My gear changes were smooth, I coasted down hills. Stayed close behind lorrys to ride in they're slip streams ( no idea if this works)
Got to port Talbot and the red light was glaring at me. Keep going. Keep going. Reduce my speed, crawl along.
Once I got to Carmarthen the car was getting angry. The red light was flashing. Begging me to quench its thirst. No hope. Onwards to Milford!
By the time I was in Haverfordwest the car was no longer angry. It was in a blinding rage. Fuel light flashing, warning beep beeping. Engine spluttering. 7 miles to go.
And guess what, I made it! The old girl did it. 200 miles!
Can't beat a good old adventure. Only problem is, I haven't got enough petrol to go to the garage in the morning
