Hi,
Has anyone seen anything like this before. Got a feeling it may have been a badge. It is made of lead and is some type of bird. At the back of the bird's head is a small protruding piece of lead which makes me think there once was some form of pin or pin attachment, maybe going down towards where the legs may have been (legs missing).
Regards to all,

I am virtually postitive it is whats known as a shy cock!

This was basically a game where kids would throw initialled lead disks or throw stones to try and knock over the lead shy cocks.

The lead ones were introduced in the 1700's as the original game involved throwing stones or disks at life birds teathered to the ground.

Good find - I'd like one

Hope that helps

Neil,
Many thanks for your id help - i think you maybe right.
The only thing that bugs me is this lead bird is "wafer" thin (about 1.5mm in thickness or less in some places). One hit with a stone and it would have been obliterated in one go!!
