Terry,

Any chance you can get a clearer shot. The letter mark looks more like a scrolled 'x' to me and the centre figure; if lion passant, looks malformed? However, I cannot find the scrolled x in any of the Birmingham date series.

If it's an H then it should be 1982. It does look more like an X which for Birmingham is 1997.
