Flying out to Menorca in a couple of months with Easy jet and just wondering if anyone has flown with them taking a detector either in hand luggage or in a suitcase? What is the position with other airlines? Advice appreciated, thanks.

I took my detector to the maldives in march,I put the control box,coil and headphones in a small ruck sack as hand luggage and put the shaft and sand scoop in the cargo hold.
I flew with Easyjet to Spain last month but did not take my detector because Easyjet charge £35 per bag for hold luggage.
A tip if you fly with Easyjet you can take a piece of hand luggage each and there is no weight limit on it,so put all your clothes in two
bags as hand luggage and you don't have to pay.They have to fit in a box that they use to show how big the bag has to be,some thing the size of a small back pack.

I take my Deus out to the USA (Florida) every year to work the beaches, OK for the dry sand and just about OK for the wet sand.

I break down the machine into four parts, controller (most expensive piece) in one carry on luggage.

Headphones in another carry on.

Coil in one hold luggage

Upper and lower stem in the other hold luggage.

This way I spread the risk if one of the hold bags is lost.

Batteries, not possible to remove, not been a problem so far.

I do carry my receipt for the machine should customs query country of purchase.

I was in Florida last year and wished I had taken my detector, didn't realise how easy it was ;D

No they did not bat a eye. I put the bag through the xray scanner and I was expecting them to say something but I had no problems,just make sure you take the batteries out of the detector when at the airport.If you have a waterprof detector open the seal so that it doe's not pressurise in flight.

 :D :D...took mine to gambia many years ago...and security chap at gambia airport..well I say airport just a runway with corrugated shed....the only words he could say was..what is it...3 times..then waved me through....when I went to use it the bloody thing was broken... ::)

First of all thanks to everyone for the advice about taking the detector abroad, it was very easy. Decided to put my Eurotec pro broken down in my hand luggage (Didn't take a case) got to security at Bristol airport and just had to put it in a tray and away to go.

Based in Son Bou for the first week and with a car managed 7 early morning sessions roughly 3 hours a time on 4 different beaches, only on dry sand. Second week in Calan Bosch managed 3 outings the best being in Cala Galdana where I found 30 Euros in 2 hours, 2 euro coins popping up everywhere!

The funny thing was that I found £6.21 as well as just over 100 euros in total, no decent jewellery just a silvery charm bracelet on my first outing which my daughter didn't take off for the whole fortnight.

Unbelievable to be on such beautiful beaches at 6am just getting light with the sun ready to come up, so peaceful.

Glad you managed to do some some detecting whilst you were away.

I was on the beach most mornings @ 6.45 am until 9.am in Florida.

Looks good, great feeling doing something that you love on a near deserted beautiful beach with the sun coming up.

Going to Fuerteventura later in year, now I know how easy it is to transport my detector it adds a new dimension to the holiday  ;D
