I have two other coils for the machine which I've bought separately and they are a 12x10 SEF and a 15" WOT coil.
£120 for 12x10 (just over two months old)
£60 for the 15"WOT in very good condition.

This is a really good combination for most situations and the only reason for selling is, its my 'prime machine' so use it most of the time
but I'm having to take painkillers every time because of a shoulder injury sustained whilst motorcycling in 2009 . Its not that heavy a machine for a
fit person but I'm afraid my damaged shoulder does suffer and this hobby should be enjoyable, 'right'.
Will be looking to get a machine that the control box can be hip mounted.

they are quite a weighty machine.i agree not the machine for someone with a weak arm or shoulder..you should.nt have any trouble selling it.. i personally think it,s one of the top machines out there.have.nt got one myself. allways been happy with my D.F.X.it has crossed my mind to buy one but just as you.ve stated above.its not a light machine to swing around all day.but i have seen what they produce out on the field.very deep machine.

I mentioned about the ET being excessively heavy in the past and been told to shut up as it wasn't
and was well balanced, etc., etc.   Thanks for backing me up.  :)

Good Luck selling, Mike, as like you said, detecting should be about enjoyment and if it's causing pain
then you won't want to get out detecting.

OK Bob, who told you the Etrac was well balanced? lol, whoever it was obviously didn't do physics  ;D I use the XS which is heavier again but thankfully I have got quite used to it. It's been the one thing people have complained about since 1998 when the Explorers came out but those at Minelab seem to have taken the "stick fingers firmly in ears and go la la la la la la la" approach to customer feedback ;D

I can't remember who they were as it was coming at me from all directions that it wasn't heavy!  ;D

What I find amazing is that it has some very good technology and could have been made so much better
if they had utilised things that were available when it was under R & D.

LiPo batteries were about, as was the opportunity for cordless headphones, and lighter materials.

The only thing they changed apparently, was the processor, and they reused the case. It was all about saving money and not about providing the best for us.

If it had been made MUCH lighter how many of us would have bought and kept it.

That's why the XP Deus has done so well as it's so light and utilises the latest technology.........and that's from
what was a much smaller company.

I understand Minelab is now owned by a new company, Codin? , and from what I have read they are concentrating on the industrial market such as land mine detectors and other military uses as the profits aren't there in the
hobby sector. I hope I'm wrong.

They do seem an awful long time bringing out a new machine.............it use to be a revamped one every year!  ;D

Codan are the new owners and like so many multi national takeovers, the dream was with Minelab and that's a luxury Codan can't afford.
I think the big money has always been in Minelab's Military side but they had their origins and expertise in the hobby/gold market. They would have to bring to the table something either innovative along the lines of the Deus or even just a restyled and far lighter Etrac/Explorer, as a machine it's still holding it's own but as you say the technology is in place to make it far more ergonomic. It's a lovely looking machine and the battery system is one of the best there is but just badly balanced and weighty.
The brain of the machine is no bigger than that of, say the DFX but that feels like a feather by comparison.

The Minelab battery system is NiMh isn't it?  Lithium polymer is supposedly the best.


Even the Bliss has LiPo !   ;D

Yes NiMh or alkaline but I meant in changing over. If they made a LiPo version it would have to be made especially and I dread to think what they would charge for it, their normal ones are an arm and a leg as it is :D

Has anyone made a straight stem version of the ET yet?

They've even started doing that to the Bliss and that's well balanced!  ;D


It's a wonder anyone would buy one new as there are plenty around second hand.

Yes Andy UK made one up from an Explorer II and a Whites stem. The Bliss is a S stem not straight but as you say the Whites straight system is the best for balance.

Nice to meet you as well Stuart. It will be a bit of a steep learning curve but once you get the hang of her, she'll do all you require. (I mean its an E-Trac - What more needs to be said)
The one tip I would re-emphasise is to concentrate on sounds and just use figures as a rough guide.
