You don't say what size it is but it's almost certainly a horse brass.  As to age, well I might be wrong but I think it's prob. 19th or even 20th cent.

I had a look through brasses on a few sites and there were quite a few similar in design. This is a useful site to browse

Not so sure on the horse brass idea Val as given the size of the pattern on the paper towel the horse is pretty small (relative to a normal horse brass), Wittsy is the design detail the same back and front? and is there any sign of a fastening point or break where one might have been?

Geoff check out wittsy's first post  'Field of Horses'  Jul 10th  front and reverse pics.  Same both sides and no fixing points. Hadn't thought about the design on the paper towel. It does suggest it's quite small. Maybe a medallion, praps ?

Thanks Val and Val you'de probably be the person to ask about horse depictions....is it me or does this horse have a Chinese feel about it?
There is a slight swelling of the rim immediately above the horses ears which could be the original, if there was one, attachment point  Smiley

If you orientate it so that the ears are at the top you get the design below, still not sure on size but for my money it's a pendant from a keyring and no older that the 70's or 80's Undecided

I think you might be on the money there Geoff.  As for language, it sounds a bit Welsh to me  Roll Eyes

Thanks for the replies and interesting answers. Val and Geoff it is just under 1 & 1/2" diameter and above the ear at that "swelling" it is slightly buckled and out of shape as if it has been caught or hit with something.

I think the Jury is well and truly out on this one.  That doesn't look like an attachment point and if it's iron I can't see it being a pendant. Iron isn't a material commonly used in modern jewellery, key ring or other.

One for the curiosity box.  You never know when an I.D. might pop up.

Tis brass I think Geoff. Just lightly rubbed any area on the edge and brassy colour was coming through.

OH !!!!   well same still applies.   Is copper by any chance ??  just thought if it is then it could be a pendant to guard against Arthritis.

Just a thought.   p.s. if it is I could do with one. Roll Eyes
