Happy Valentines Day guys and girls!

I thought this could be a discussion of the day, it just seemed right Smiley I was actually thinking last night about Love Tokens, why, you wonder, because today is Valentines Day!

Does anybody know how the really functioned, when it really began etc. Here is some questions I was thinking about, please feel free to add and comment, even post pics of some please!! I mean for starters, you gave somebody a Love Token, was that person meant to give one in return to show that they loved you back, or was it only one directional? Or just by keeping it, showed that they loved you? Was it spendable? I mean if its bent like a Z, then was it deemed no longer money /legal tender back in the day, or could people still use it, or even refuse it, in trade? Was it generally just a guy giving it to a girl, or did girls give it equally to guys etc? Did you give it with the person knowing? Or was it given in secret so the receiver did not know who gave it? Lots of questions really.

I am really curious, feel free to post your comments!!

Cheers,
Jon

the way it was explained to me was that if a man was courting a girl and wanted to marry her,he would rub down a coin on a stone and bend one side down with his teeth.if the girl accepted his proposal he would then bend the opposite side of the coin forming an "s" shape....the girl would carry this in her purse, if she changed her mind she would throw it away.. Roll Eyes....but they were also lost......love tokens are the forerunners of engagement rings........ Wink....they are also said to be in the nursery rhyme  "there was a crooked man who walked a crooked mile and found a crooked sixpence beside a crooked stile "....... Grin.......byron
