hi all i was wondering if its ok to detect with the plastic coil cover on the machine?
when i recived my detector the coil cover was cable tied to the coil, ive used it for a few months this way, am i doing wrong? Huh

No leave it on, it doesn't effect performance and helps protect the coil. In time you will need to replace it as it will wear down, you will then see what damage you would do to the coil if it wasn't there.

Yup as Geoff has said. I have an Ace 250 and i have coil covers cable tied to both my coils. I would much rather spend £13 on a coil cover in a years time then to spend over £100 on a new coil in a years time.

As i was told "if you don't need to replace the coil cover atleast once a year then your not holding your machine close enough to the ground"

Yes leave it on. But what no one has said is that you should take it off from time to time to clean it out there will be a lot of grit under it and that can damage the underside of the coil and can also cause false readings.

if you lok after your machine it should last you long time , always look after your equipment , everytime i go detecting i make sure my machine all clean , and clean it after detecting . keep the coil cover on mate all good and save you few quids in a long run .Bonne chance detecting . Nap.

thanks for a great response! yeh ive noticed its a bit gritty, thanks all, i was wondering if you just used it for storage and so on.
