Title: James from Swansea
Post by: Jamesflood on September 07, 2010, 07:55:52 AM
Aloah! :)

My name is James From Swansea, am 21 years old and am a newbie to the detecting community.

Have browsed the site for about a month before eventually pursuading my gran to give me her metal detector, because shes part of the Glynneath Historical Society and is getting a bit old now...and its probably not in the old gits will either :D

I first took it out for a little test run on swansea beach sunday night. Only found 1 thing which was odd... a Kansas American cent about a foot under the sand. Obviously being my first time with a detector finding something at least...i was quite happy :P

Although i do know it didnt float from Kansas to Swansea mind... im pretty sure Dorothy didnt throw Cents out of the window when she was floating to Oz. Someone has probably found it in thier purse after coming back from the US and thrown it away.

Anyway, the detector isnt a very expensive one, she paid £100 for it in swansea about 4 years ago, but its a little bit better than a toy. So it will do my newbie ways for now :)

Nice to metet you all :)

Welcome to the site James, enjoy yourself, it doesn't matter what detector u have as long as it works , and you've proved it does just that,   what make and model is it,,  it is better to start of with a cheap one , rather than wade straight in with an expensive model, that way, if you don't enjoy the hobby, you haven't lost a lot .

hope to see you at a rally soon , regards Mike

If you like beach work , then obviously, the more populated beaches like Barry and Porthcawl are the best,,, if your after history then you really need to get on land , the best way is to join a club , and use their land , and of course DW rallys , or you can try and find your own land by getting permission off a land owner.

THE BIG no no , is never detect without permission.

alright james keep on swinging.try it in your nans garden to get to know its signals.you get a lot of foreign coins on the beaches.apparently 90 percent of the gold rings are under water though so i been told or near the low tide mark

you got to start somewhere, i started with an old field master
and i got a lot of good finds with it, so take your time with it
and get to know it on the signals side of it, but most of all enjoy it.
