Title: two firsts today. ...
Post by: handyman [Alan} on August 04, 2012, 04:33:27 PM
Dodging the very heavy showers, thunder, lightening and everything else that the gods chose to throw at us today. Techony, Diggerdave and I, braved the elements and the flash flooding and managed a couple of hours detecting on a new pasture field.

I managed 2 firsts today, A Lady Godiva token [how strange that i should find this, so soon after posting up a picture of the giant puppet being cycled to  London!], and a very ornate door knocker plate.

more info on the godiva token can be found here http://www.abccoinsandtokens.com/DH.Warks.231.005.html (http://www.abccoinsandtokens.com/DH.Warks.231.005.html)

oh, and a 1966 florin ... now what was special about that date!!!

enjoy

Make that a third first...

My first Browning .50 Calibre armour piercing incendiary round.

I thought I'd put it somewhere safe until the cops arrive but no sooner had I put it in Handyman's exhaust pipe for safekeeping and he drove home. Huh! Can I have my bullet back please Al.  ;D

 ;D Like it!

I wonder if the token is from Banbury - big statue of Godiva there if i remember correctly and links with the town too!

Reminds me of the old blue peter scene about the fake and genuine sanctuary knockers from durham cathederal

rofl at that memory Val. We did find a few teeth, but we thought they were from the sheep on the field.

Having said that, we did have to rescue the young sheep who had pushed his head through the wire fence! We were alerted to the wailing bleats, and went over to help ... it didn't take us long to release the poor thing. 10 mins later the farmer appeared, and told us that its a common occurrence!  ;D ;D ;D

Yes Al, very common. They're as thick as, well you name it.  Me and my friend had to rescue a huge ewe when we out on the Clee Hills one day. She'd done exactly the same, head under one wire and then over the one behind.
That took a bit of doing I don't mind admitting. Mind you, she was very good about being woman-handled, almost as if she knew we were helping.

Well done on the good deed. ;D

Val

p.s.I found one last week dated 1948  it was Two Shillings by the way.

this is what it would have looked like , a reynolds trade token , if you look at the edge of the coin there may still be lettering , nice find and rare , well done mate
