Hello All.Right this is weird. On Thursday I thought I'd found a Roman, which turned out to be a worn Georgian.Yesterday I found what I thought was another worn Georgian. My finds box was full of things I'd taken to show a landowner that I had to meet earlier that day,so I put it with all the other bits and pieces, mostly buttons and lead, etc, I'd found that day, in the only bag I could find in the car,a crisp packet.I was so pleased with what I thought was a hammered, which actually turned out to be a Jetton !  Roll Eyes ( I've got plenty to learn about coin ID'ing!),I forgot all about it.
I've been busy doing some rendering on the house today,I finished up and went in to get washed up.I then noticed the crisp packet I'd left by the sink and thought I might as well clean up all that lot up while I was at it.Have a look at my other "worn Georgian" Grin .Now the pics aren't great and it's obviously quite worn. It's quite heavy and about the size of a fifty pence. It's easier to see when you can tilt it in the light obviously, but I can see the bust has curly hair and I can see the end of his nose between the white area just off centre and 3 o'clock. There is writing to the left of the bust, but I can't make it out.I have only washed it,I'm not risking any other type of cleaning. What do you reckon? I'm saying nothin' !  Lips sealed  Grin

I've been looking at some other coins and I think maybe it's supposed to be this way up,with S C at the bottom.

Looks like Roman - but how did you get it that colour - the red patches are unusual.

It's exactly as found Peter, just a quick wash in warm water bud.I think it may be a copper or bronze based coin perhaps?

Well I think I can safely say it's Roman and if the size and weight is as you say then it's probably a Sestertius. From the little writing that I can make out I'm tempted to say it's Antoninus Pius but the hair for me doesn't quite match so over to the Doc..... Wink
Oh and well done Villan hope it's the first of many.
