Do you all use the sef coil? What difference does it make as opposed to the original standard minelab coils?

Hiya yes i use a 15 x 12" SEF coil on my Explorer II.

It is the best combo i have ever used allows me to turn up

sens. to maximum on most sites including wet sand beaches.

very easy to pinpoint very good coverage and at least a 2 inch increase in depth

that was using two exp.II to check signals one with stock coil

the other with SEF. set on both was identical.

This combo is totally deadly on wet sand beaches....and will outclass or give a run for

your money on inland sites other than rough plough cos minelabs dont like air lol PaulB.

Don't think it's a disadvantage Paul , it's a good reason to stay off rough plough I don't get any pleasure on working on it myself and that would be a good enough excuse for me!
How does it cope with mineralisation or is that the reason for keeping it slow and low?

On 99% of all inland and all wet sand beaches i run at FULL sens.

It can pick up electrical white noise from pylon/transformers and

electric fences etc.but i can hand on heart say it copes superbly

with all mineralisation i have run across anyway....there was a case

at the Hucclecote rally of severe mineralisation and i had to turn sens.

right down but still found roman grots...on reflection a smaller coil

would have been better here but thats the only time i have had

that happen.....PaulB.

Thanks for the quick reply Paul, now an sef coil is available for the T2 it sounds like it would be a good extra option for the machine, it is a lot of money to pay for a coil, hence the questionsl
I have had other machines where the double D has increased finds and the sef is a mixture of that and concentric, it's only the big one available at the moment (I think) and it makes me wonder when you are close to iron and a good find what the signal is going to focus on?

Have'nt used a sef on the explorer by they are supposed to be excellent, did get one for my F75 lasted all of 15 min, went back in the box and sent back!! The coil made the machine completely unstable, I had to adjust my settings to compensate which completely canceled out any advantages, but that was just my findings.

Thanks for the info on that Maxine, don't think I will go for one then will probably look for something different for that bit of extra depth!

I'm using a 15 x 12 with my SE and can only say that when I changed to it my finds level on what I thought was a fairly well-worked site went up significantly. Only issue with that size though is that it's heavier although personally I don't find it too much problem

Good question Phil I,d also like to know if the 10x12sef is deeper than the dd pro thinking of getting one for my explorer 11 why the 10x12 over the 12x15 you mght ask  the smaller coil as only slightly less depth!! is better on the small hammered easier to handle on rough terrain is lighter and cheaper have a look in the september issue of the searcher magazine my only concern is the concentric part of the coil concentrics are not as good on bad ground as widescan this part of the design may cause an imbalance in preformance over a true widescan design  mole

The 10x12 Sef is a great coil, but no better than the new Minelab standard pro coil, which is also lighter.
The 12x15 will give you 2" to 3" greater depth on pasture on a pre decimal penny sized target.

Have only used the standard coil as supplied with the e trac, still trying to get used to pinpointing, find the dfx far better, but that bis not a double D coil.

coil good but is heavy. sold mine due to the weight. but they are good coils .
