Edward 3rd's double-florin would be a nice one to find :o you would only need to make one or two coins ;D Title: Re: Hammereds Post by: NickDavies on August 16, 2013, 06:21:24 PM I wonder how many hammered coin dies get found detecting? if any. It was part of a program about the Tower. Just imagine having a coin collection like that. Love to know what it's worth.

Title: Re: Hammereds Post by: Val Beechey on August 16, 2013, 07:10:06 PM I know they were modern copies but it breaks your heart to see them going back into the melting pot. :'(

I can't say I am right Dale, but I think it unlikely that any genuine dies would have made their way outside the confines of the mints. From what I have read, and learned from a present day enactors the moneyers would have been securely locked into the rooms where they were making the coins. The punishment for nicking anything would have been quite harsh .However, I do not see any reason why the forgers could not lose their dies., Edward 3rd's double-florin would be a nice one to find :o you would only need to make one or two coins ;D Title: Re: Hammereds Post by: celticspikey on August 17, 2013, 08:45:42 PM Just found a nice video on youtube about hammered coins!
