Title: 101012 - a few finds but don't tell dwb!
Post by: handyman [Alan} on October 10, 2012, 02:05:57 PM
A few finds from the past few days for your considerable delight, and to keep the FLO busy.

There's no hallmarks in the ring.

enjoy

Loks 13th Century, but could be 2nd or 18th.

No Alan......it isn't those little wrigglies that go breaking into eggs. The 'tadpoles are supposed to represent drops of blood'. One of our Yeovil members had a ring a couple of years ago withh exactly the same. I will come back shortly with some more details.

Alan.

thanks Cardiffian,  any help in the ID is much appreciated. I like the idea of drops of blood, am looking forward to hearing from you in due course.

Hi Taff, we got no other context in the field, other than a lizzy halfgroat. So, all i can say for certain that it has to be pre dated hallmarks which was 1773.

keep the ideas coming folks

cheers & thanks for helping

Thank you Cardifian for the link, its a good read. I can see where you are coming from re the 'tadpole' ... the link you provided shows a ring with tadpoles and a letter on it, the one i found lacks the letter.  However, its good starting point and i thank you for taking the time to help. It is much appreciated.

Mike ... a fertility ring ..... ffs don't tell my Mrs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   ;D ;D ;D ;D

lol

thanks for the comments guys n gals.

neil - there are gold rings with a similar design recorded on PAS. The experts have dated those ones as 15th/16th century. So you're spot on with the date.

cheers
