The 'tadpoles are supposed to represent drops of blood'. One of our Yeovil members had a ring a couple of years ago withh exactly the same. I will come back shortly with some more details.

Hi Taff, we got no other context in the field, other than a lizzy halfgroat. I can see where you are coming from re the 'tadpole' ... the link you provided shows a ring with tadpoles and a letter on it, the one i found lacks the letter. However, its good starting point and i thank you for taking the time to help. It is much appreciated.

thanks for the comments guys n gals. neil - there are gold rings with a similar design recorded on PAS. The experts have dated those ones as 15th/16th century.
