Pinpointers

Been detecting since June of last year but not put many hours in due to work commitments and family commitments and haven't been for around 5 months now. I've never had a pinpointer/probe(whatever it's called) but know it'd make things so much easier. I intend on getting out a bit more in the new year and so will get one beforehand. Trouble is that I really cannot afford the Garrett and with the other two being the same price give or take a fiver I was wondering which is better ? Teknetics or Whites ? Are they any good or am I better off without ? Think I put a similar thread on here in the middle of last year but never got around to getting one but definitley will be this time so over to you lot for your help please

My personnal opinion is to save up and either get the garrett Pro pointer ( I have one, great tool ) or the Minelab one, I dont think the others are in the same league, but let the truth be said I have never used the `` other´´ onde Whites teknetics I am only going on replies from similiar posts & topics I have read...

I've used the Whites - Rubbish, poor construction, soon breaks down

Another cheap make, cant remember which one, never worked properly.

Garrett Pro Pointer - Spot on, worth every penny.

Not used the new Minelab one so cant comment on it.

There are lots, bull eye and silly names like that but I agree with Tafflaff, my propointer also is spot on, I have heard some good things about the Minelab one though, but general opinion goes towards the garrett.

I also had the whites bulls eye, found it be no different than the cheap ones on ebay, so bought a garrett pro pointer, never looked back, excellent tool.

Can't really afford one though. So would you say that I'm better off with none rather than with White's Bullseye II or Teknetics Pinpoint probe ?

well its not as if your upgrading as you don't own one , save up and get the garrett  , as taff and many others have said , worth every penny

I'm with Monco in save for a Garrett, if you really can't warrant rather than afford the pro-pointer then I would look at something like the Sherlock dts or TX-2002 probe, they are basic but do the job exactly the same as the Whites and Teknetics but at half the price.
But I lasted for 33 years waiving handfuls of soil in front of the coil for my pinpointing, I guess it's a case of you won't miss what you've never had

Quite correct, you wont miss what you have never had, but once you get one you wont leave home without it...

I bought a few when i first started detecting.....cheaper ones i found on ebay and even a security wand which did'nt last long with sand and moisture damage  I had some xmas money a few years back and got the Garret probe and fair play it really is an awesome bit of kit mate. Yes it is a bit pricey but worth every penny i think

Have a look the that auction site sometimes you can get a second hand one for a good price thats what I did,I've had it over a year now and it still works fine.

Save up for the Garrett. I know some people have had trouble with theirs but I have had mine for over a year with no problems. However, it hasn't been hammered as I only use it to pinpoint those elusive finds that seem to be anywhere but where you dig. Resisted buying a probe for years but wouldn't go out without it now.

I'd say be patient and wait till you can afford the Garrett and buy it from a reputable dealer. Watch out for fakes on that auction site. Once you've bought it, it's too late. Remember, If it looks too good to be true, it usually is.
I resisted spending all that money on one but now I've got one I wouldn't be without. It saves my poor old aching back and the Farmers field.

Ok , thanks. It's unanimous , I'll save up ! Used one for first time on Sunday and was quite impressed. If my car hadn't have got 'very poorly' just before Christmas I'd have got one. Oh well , hopefully soon.
