Author Topic: How to date Horse Shoes  (Read 9654 times)

Hi guys, most of us at some time or other has found a horse shoe, whilst detecting.

Found one recently on Mike's get together, quite a large shoe, but the width where the shoe is nailed on is very much wider than what you would normally see today.

I was wondering is there anyway that these items could be dated  Huh .

Any info would be much appreciated

Thanks Ace  Wink

Pics added : Not much to go on as the shoe is braking as you try to clean it, very fragile  Undecided

There are so many variations, I would recommend "Old Horseshoes" by Ivan Sparks as a good reference book.

OK I have consulted THE BOOK and It's not very early as it's too big but the nearest I can find both in shape and size would date it to around 1650.

I would suggest dinner and a movie. Just remember to treat your horse shoe as you would treat any other date. Don't expect to get your horse shoe into bed on the first date. If you get along on the date then a goodnight kiss is fine, and then, if you want to see each other again, let things progress naturally.
