Title: Last two evenings Post by: simond on September 04, 2017, 08:14:11 PM I'm making the most of the waning light evenings. Here's a few of my finds, oh and my silver Denarius of course! Not sure what the large lead mount is though?
Title: Re: Last two evenings Post by: benny on September 04, 2017, 09:20:39 PM The lead thing is a whirligig (post medieval toy). Would of been threaded on a chord and spun to make a noise.
Title: Re: Last two evenings Post by: simond on September 04, 2017, 09:34:03 PM Thank you Benny 👍
Every day is a school day in this hobby 😁 Title: Re: Last two evenings Post by: scara on September 04, 2017, 10:02:41 PM Simon, in the top picture the lead weight with the three lines, looks very similar to a Roman 3 oz weight, though a little cruder than the usual ones you see.
Title: Re: Last two evenings Post by: simond on September 05, 2017, 07:25:15 AM Thanks Mark, the reverse is patterned also, I'll post a photo tonight. I also thought that the copper alloy implement may be an ear scraper or similar. It's definitely a site with roman activity as it's where I had my Silver Denarius :)

Hi Mark here is an image of both sides. I was thinking along the same lines as I've had similar before but as you know they are difficult date! Title: Re: Last two evenings Post by: scara on September 05, 2017, 06:19:36 PM certainly has all the hallmarks of a Roman one, a bit crudely made but if you were to ask me I would say yes. Especially with the other finds you have had from there.
