Olga Ivshina walks slowly and carefully through the pine trees, the beeps of her metal detector punctuating the quiet of the forest.
Of the estimated 70 million people killed in World War Two, 26 million died on the Eastern front - and up to four million of them are still officially considered missing in action. But volunteers are now searching the former battlefields for the soldiers' remains, determined to give them a proper burial - and a name.

I read the article earlier in the week and was shocked how many people were still unaccounted for. Most people do not realise the sacrifices that Russia gave to defeat the Nazis, without them there would have been a totally different outcome tn the war.

yes there's a whole chunk of history not told to us, even today all the kids learn in school about the 39/45 period is how wonderful America was and how they came to our assistance, no mention of the lend lease programme that virtually bankrupted the country and how america insisted we kept up payments until the final one in December 2006.
I think we owe the ordinary Russian soldier and civilian a whole lot more than we know,

ps I'm not Russian or a Communist  Grin
