Not DW's Badger I hasten to add!

A ring believed to have been unearthed by a badger has turned out to be a rare and valuable love token.

Sue Gilroy, from Ridley, Kent, found the mysterious gold band near the entrance to a badger sett while out on a walk.

After giving it a clean she gave it to her daughter Charlotte, 25, who now proudly wears it. But curious about its origins, Sue decided to take it along to the BBC's Antiques Roadshow to see if their experts could help. Experts on the BBC's Antiques Roadshow said the band is a romantic 'memorial ring' dating from the early 1700s. Rings such as these were often made and worn by the bereaved after the death of a lover

This particular ring contains a centrepiece that holds several strands of hair and a pair of initials.

The inscription 'When this you see, remember me' is also engraved inside.

The experts on the BBC show valued the ring found three years ago at £1,000.

'I spotted the ring only because I came across freshly-dug earth around a badger hole.
'We can make out that one of the two entwined initials might be a letter 'A'.
'We can't decipher the other but it might be a 'V'.

Her daughter Charlotte, a trainee solicitor, added: 'I love that ring. I wore it without knowing its rarity. I would love to find out the story of three centuries ago but I guess it must remain a mystery.'
