Title: 4Khz find with large coil
Post by: rjm on November 20, 2011, 04:55:04 PM

I found this using the 4khz frequency as it's supposedly very good on thicker silver and it got me this on Friday afternoon, and a silver locket the previous time out. I just need to work out a gold frequency now!  ;D.

I have researched the silver marks and it's 925 silver, London Import Assay Mark for 1909, and has the item number 246171 stamped inside.

It weighs 9.5 grams and is 5 cm wide (2 inches)

Any ideas what it is. Looks like a top off something.

A nice BIG bit of silver there Bob, obviously it could be from anything but to me it looks a little like the lid from a ladies powder compact.

Thats a nice find Bob - I agree with either being the back of a compact, a watch back or even a sovereign holder back depending on the size of it.

Nice chunk of silver - well done.

Plus the Bluebirds did Reading on Saturday so a great weekend all round for you! And me might I add!

Good shout on the pocket watch case Neil, this one is not identical but there are striking (no pun intended) similarities.

Cracking research there, Geoff.

It's not the same, but by gosh, it's almost. Even has the secondary item numbers on the case inside
similar to mine.

I believe your suggestion is now a shut case!  ;D

Thanks!   :)
