Title: Re: id please Post by: Chef Geoff on November 20, 2010, 07:25:45 PM That is a lovely looking coin Saxon, well done.
Not a 100% sure but it looks like an Octavian (Augustus) coin) similar to this one Augustus Denarius. Spanish mint, ca 18 BC. Laureate head left / SP QR on either side of domed tetrastyle temple, standard in a chariot within http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/augustus/RIC_0120.jpg (http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/augustus/RIC_0120.jpg) Title: Re: id please Post by: The Doc on November 20, 2010, 07:50:14 PM Great coin Saxon. You're very close Geoff. I believe it is RIC 119, which is the same as yours with the head facing the other way.

I am kind of answering the question here myself as Republican must surely imply anywhere on mainland Europe that was under Roman rule. Lovely find by the way Saxon - a real cracker!
