as Melonhead (mark) found barrel keys at the rally last sat thought i would put some that iv found over the last 2 years ;)................ have members got any to show !!!! ;)

I have found quite a few as well Kev but have never given them a second thought. I am sure I have some in the srubbish bin in the garage and will see if I can find them and take a pic Kev.

I, like WBM am guilty of consigning mine to the junk box, but here are two of the barrel tap sleeves that they would fit into.

 nice ones Kev,  i have a few myself, barrel taps locks and keys  which i keep together,  nice as a set,

i got several of these barrel keys myself,when i first started detecting i used to call em casket keys ??? ???,,dont know why but what is the differance if any ???.

Paul its the shape and matching of the key and keyway that makes the difference, the sleeves covered the tap spigot and you needed a key with the correct shape to fit through the sleeve to be able to turn it on. It was in the days when beer or cider (water was still unpurified and dangerous) were part of the workers daily refreshment supplied by the employer while out in the fields and it is thought the lock was to stop workers having a crafty pint when no one was watching.
