That is a beauty of a ring Daz well done and what a whopper. I've got a feeling there is something not quite right with the date though 1817 doesn't sound quite right to have a millesimal number. But who cares it's a fantastic find ;)

Jass I'm not the best on jewellery, Neil the guy to ask but It does have more of a 20th century look about it. Daz as Jassy has said it's the shape of the shield that is the easiest to identify.

Really nice ring. At today's gold price, its scrap value is about £228. There's one rule about selling gold .DON'T. Its better than money in the bank, I've sold some of the gold rings I've found and regret it,  but still got plenty which I'll keep until I really need the cash.

Thats a cracker mate - he must be over the moon.  I am sure he will be hooked for life now.

I'll be at home in an hour or so and have a look at the hallmarks for you. I would guestimate by design to be late Victorian/Early Edwardian - once I get the books out we can confirm it.

Cheers
Neil

Well if anybody is going to sell, now is the time to do it, gold is at an all time high but as soon as the economic crisis is over gold will drop in price it always has and always will.
