Title: King John cut half?
Post by: jtalbot0001 on April 17, 2017, 10:57:45 PM
I was kindly invited out today and managed to find this cut half, my first, and my first King John if that's who it is. Please could you ID this coin. I tried with some help to ID it, I narrowed it down to what I think is a Class 5b, 5c, or 6c even. I have been told it could be class 5b or 6c, I am inclined to go for 5c. Please help. Is it a London mint? If London what is the mint legend? LVND? It looks like there is an extra character in the mint legend? Looks more like LVVND or something like that? Many thanks, Jon.

Interesting coin Jon.

Not sure if this is the same, but I think it may read LLVND like this one rather than LVVND?

This is No. 940 in the Mass Collection of Short Cross Coins (Sylloge of Coins of the British Isles Volume 56).

It is a Class 4a coin (Richard I)
