i'm thinking it may be part of a sword hanger,  but i welcome other suggestions.

It's an Edward IV - could be Irish, although I can't see any privy marks.

i'd see taff on anything"eclectic" apparently he's an expert in this feild of detecting. ;D ;D ;D

Thanks Probono, well that adds confirmation to what I've been told elsewhere, so many Thanks for that. Also managed to find an image on Google with the same wonky crown on Eddie IV so bang goes my forgery theory.
