Title: Plate Brooch
Post by: celticspikey on February 05, 2016, 11:40:35 AM
I think this little chap is worthy of a look, I found it yesterday on a dig organised by Mike of the Midweek Searchers, it was the first time I had attended one of his digs, and I have to say it was a cracking day with a great bunch of guys and girls of course, whilst you pay your money and take your chances on all rally's and digs his seem to come up with the finds, which I can only put down to research and productive areas. Any way its unusual to still have the stone intact, its a plate brooch of the 2nd-3rd century, with gold gilding and silvered on the rear.

Lovely condition on that Paul unusual to see one complete ;)
Midweek Searchers ??? I've not heard of them do they get many at rallies midweek? Don't tell me they're an amalgamation of those two famous clubs the "On the Dole Detectorists" and the "Pensioner Prospectors"  ;D

Yes as you know not normally complete Geoff  which makes it all the more desirable.I think the searchers are on Facebook and that's where you sign up to the digs,I'm not  ::) I have managed life without Facebook lol, I mite be the only one thou  ;D they go out Saturday's and the Thursday ones are by invatation of Mike who runs it, I think he's from London way and has much land down the M3-A303 corridor (Wiltshire areas) there was a good mix of detectorists at the dig, fair to say I think quite a few were semi retired me included  ;) and I guess the rest had jobs that they could wangle a day of during the week. :) I must admit i was struggling as I hurt my back the day before and was pumped up on co-codamols it got me through the day and I spoke to several people lets say ,seasoned detectorists struggling with the likes of dodgy worn out knees, arharitis and back problems. A great day though.  ;)

I know I'm lucky with the brooches Val, didn't see any more, quite a few Denari come up, some Celtic 1/4 staters one of Gold that was a cracker, fair to say a very productive day, but there was about 80 in attendance.  ;)
