Not being very clued up on weghts it seems to me its a weight of victorian era for two shillings and sixpence  ???I hope thats a help to you Grin

Thanks for that Adie, that is what it looks like on the face of it to me too! But why would they need a weight for a 2/6d when they were milled coins?

Maybe its not a coin weight mate it could be for weighing some other substance eg tobacco  or something .I only said tobbacco as an example mind you so your guess is as good as mine! Huh

For the youngsters... Half a crown in todays money would be 12 1/2 p

But in those days half a crown was worth 30 pennies (30d), 60 half-pennies and 120 farthings.

There were 240 pennies in £1.

There are lots of us "young members" on this site that remember spending a farthing and if you had 6p in your pocket you were a rich boy that could buy a bag of chips, an ice-cream and still have something left over for sweets.

Ahhhh.. memories ... LOL

I can remember my mother sending me to the chip shop with four old pennys malcom mate and that would feed my family of five Unbelievable !THOSE were the days Shocked

Hell Adie, how old are you ?  Grin  I can remember £ S D well but 4d to feed five!!!! Thanks for the ideas on the weight, it is about 1/2 oz on my old kitchen scales.

Would like to know what it is now Peter, for you to be stumped is unusual  Grin
Without the 2/6d it would just be an ordinary weight but that seems a lot of money for whatever it was at the time!
