Post by: mark74 on September 04, 2011, 12:11:09 PM Maybe a part from a AA fuze.
Title: Re: Not sure about this thing? Post by: Val Beechey on September 04, 2011, 02:43:13 PM I have no idea but have a look at one, very similar, that I found.
Some one suggested it may be part of a bomb but never confirmed. Val Title: Re: Not sure about this thing? Post by: mark74 on September 04, 2011, 02:52:25 PM Had a look at the ones i have.Dint look like any of the parts.so it could be a flowered shaped ring.for some one. with sausage size fingers.shame the diamonds are missing. ;D
Title: Re: Not sure about this thing? Post by: Chef Geoff on September 04, 2011, 02:55:17 PM I have to admit I don't have the foggiest what these things are but I can tell you that they are pretty common, I have found loads over the years.
Title: Re: Not sure about this thing? Post by: Mick on September 04, 2011, 03:09:31 PM Part of umbrella ;D

Title: Re: Not sure about this thing? Post by: Val Beechey on September 04, 2011, 04:25:13 PM Great idea but, naaaa. Cant see it Mick. Mines much too big. :o ::)
Val Title: Re: Not sure about this thing? Post by: Chef Geoff on September 04, 2011, 04:53:27 PM Oh yours is totally different Val,but I think he's spot on with Ron's
Title: Re: Not sure about this thing? Post by: Mick on September 04, 2011, 05:29:28 PM Val,Yours is it sort of old shape of tarpaulin eyelets ;D
Probably handmade Title: Re: Not sure about this thing? Post by: hyperon on September 04, 2011, 09:16:52 PM Well,
it could be the umbrella answer, here's another pic or two. Initially I thought it may have come from a rifle, as there is what I thought was a sight marker on it - but it sounds more realistic being an umbrella - The bubble has been burst now ;) (http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h387/tcdsalvage/Detector%20Finds/P1020423-1.jpg) (http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h387/tcdsalvage/Detector%20Finds/P1020450.jpg) Title: Re: Not sure about this thing? Post by: The Doc on September 04, 2011, 09:59:06 PM I agree with the umbrella :)
Title: Re: Not sure about this thing? Post by: wayne on September 05, 2011, 12:19:07 AM the colour and oxidisation suggest aluminum type alloy, the umbrella thing looks like a powerful argument.
Title: Re: Not sure about this thing? Post by: Jon1987 on September 05, 2011, 12:54:18 AM Iv had a couple of them and have always been told they come from an umbrella. I really hope they do because they went in the scrap bucket long ago :)
Title: Re: Not sure about this thing? Post by: Solas The Scot on September 06, 2011, 06:03:19 PM As Mick says, tarpaulin eyelet.
Title: Re: Not sure about this thing? Post by: bajero on September 06, 2011, 07:32:13 PM The umbrella theory is quite convincing and has solved one more mystery, found several over the years and initially put them down to parts off old farm machinery. The tarp eyelets are a continuous double flange flange. :)
Title: Re: Not sure about this thing? Post by: Humfrey on September 06, 2011, 08:39:21 PM i found 16 of these in one very small field ... must of been an umbrella graveyard...
i had thought they were eyelets from some sort of horse things as i also found allot of other horse brass in the same field Title: Re: Not sure about this thing? Post by: rhyso on September 07, 2011, 11:31:20 PM came across 2 of these in one hole outside a ruined, 19th century farmstead, well off beaten track so I'm not so sure :-\ :-\ 2 umbrellas maybe!?
