Early morning start yesterday with Pipster and Tafflaff making the journey over to Somerset, to try their luck at a spot a Roman grotting Grin.
One corner of this new field had already produced 9 grots so I knew they were there but I just hoped there would be more for the boys to find.
But I needn't of worried for as soon as I had found no.1 my arch nemisis in the (now much slimmer Grin) shape of Taff was on the case and like a Jack Russell he was in amongst them.
Pipster took a bit of convincing that those low rubbishy tones were coins, but as soon as he knew he also started to find them.
I dragged the lads around two adjoining fields just to see how far the site extended but due to a lack of ploughing in these it was a wasted few hours. So it was back to the main field with Taff determined to show me how to detect  (he's still bitter about the hammy count Grin) and he did just that Undecided

So at the end of play Pipster had 5 grots, I had 4 with the Treorchy tearaway having 10, plus he had the cheek to find a fibula too Angry
Pip did towards the end find a hunk of Silver, which looks as if it may have been a lid from a snuff box or the like, plus during the day while digging he found a fragment of clay pipe with a lovely makers mark stamped on the base.
Anyway a cracking day and we parted company with Taff asking if next time could I find a field with loads of hammies in.............................................In your dreams Taff Cheesy
