Title: PIMPEL HILL A SAXON BURIAL MOUND, LOCAL HISTORY OF MY HOMETOWN DETECTING SOON!
Post by: johnus brummieus maximus on February 27, 2011, 09:28:45 PM
I would like to share with you the information I have on my area, I think you will find it very interesting indeed next week I hope to be carrying out some digging and who knows what will turn up, coke cans, condoms, ring pulls etc but also long forgotten history SAXON, ROMAN, Coins etc maybe even some UXB's (unexploded bombs) as we are so close to the jaguar plant which was the old spitfire aeroplane plant.
I will also upload and show some pictures of my finds and maybe some interesting ones as well, the land has been left to go to pot and a terrible mess so a spade or two will help no end so stay tuned folks.

History in the making:      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_Bromwich (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_Bromwich)

This is pimpel hill as known locally, which is a saxon burial ground the road next to it is the collector road this tarmac strip runs over the top of saxon burials that was smashed apart by our local councils I hope they treat me with more respect when im gone. The area I shall be covering detecting is the other side of the collector carriageway and you will see by the photos I upload this week it looks fantastic for detecting.

hope Johnnus does a check on the sites and monuments records to see if its been scheduled or not.

http://www.castlebromwich.net/history.htm (http://www.castlebromwich.net/history.htm)  suggests its a grade 1 listed monument, so should not be detected upon.

Hi John

Best of luck with your expidition, hope you find something very nice. I'm sure you'll let us know.
I'm convinced there's a burial mound by me and it's not recorded. I look at it, longingly, every time I walk past with the dogs. Not a hope in hell of confirming my toughts, though. The land owner is a SOB. I know there was one found nearby, in the early 1900's and there is evidence of a settlement also nearby. Thats where I found some flints and beach stones. Wouldn't I love to get in there with a spade.
Hope you find something.

Val
