today I drove over to Forde Abbey area where I have permission on a couple of new fields.
First find I made under a huge oak tree was the 'lucky star' silver and enamel pendant. Not so lucky for the loser I guess.maybe my luck will change for the better.
Second find almost adjacent was the swatch watch which is in surprisingly good condition considering the straps have completely rotted away .
Another foot or so and a nice pistol musket ball with a flat side so it had probably been shot at the tree .
A huge pewter button followed by a couple of tiny bronze objects not yet identified but look like they have been attached to lead at some time.
Finally at the top of the field I find my first coin a GEO halfpenny. at last something other than a button . Making my way back back to the farmhouse for pizza and wedges I made my way down the field along a new post and rail fence.near the bottom of the field I get a foil signal under the fence . certain that it would be a galv wire nail from the new fence i stood there debating whether or not to quit and go for the food.
I decide to dig and after 5 minutes of searching through the stones and soil with the pro pointer I finally find what looks like a tiny silver button. Brushing off the loose earth I realise there is writing on the edge ...! its a minute hammered coin ... the smallest I have ever seen ... smaller than my little finger nail ! which I believe is a Charles l penny
I start making my way back to the farmhouse still swinging the detector and after a few paces get another similar signal ! Up comes half a hammered coin ! I make a quick scan of the hole before back-filling and get another signal yes its the missing piece of the Louis XlV Sol4 ...how lucky is that !
Looking forward to my next visit
