is that I was only telling someone a couple of weeks ago ive found several mark Anthony dinari but all in a poor state ,,,this is the exeption,,todays find.,,any more info on coin would be great ,,,cheers.

Yes, I think you were telling me!

It legion XV (or 15) by the looks of it - there are no other 'unusual' marks on it - some of the legions had their own name. They are all of baser silver than the denarii current at the time, which is why I think they lasted in use for so long.

They were struck for many legions, some of which probably didn't exist. RSC 47 (Vol 1), BMC 210 - it's one of the commoner (or least expensive) types (£6 in VF in 1967 Smiley )

Ah - it's just that my copy of RSC (vol 1) was from 1967, although sad to say I've owned it for the last 20 years. It still gives you an idea of relative values, and has coins in it that are still not on Wikipedia! Some coins are cheaper now than they were then.......
