hi all, as we are about to start 3 juniors in the club, just wondering if anyone all -ready has a junior going out with them, and if so what type of machine they use. price is important as not sure if they will take to detecting, or get feed up after a few outings. have found on some machines we have tried, they cannot be shortened enought, and weight is also going to play its part, machines tried were tesoro side winder, and rapier. any help would be much appreciated, the boys are 8 years old but big for there age  mickycoin   mick ;D ;D

Well I took the centre S bend off my Whites DFX and fitte my small eliptical coil to it. Its spot on for my six year old boy...lol

hi rob thanks for that, we have two whites machines, but no other coil, normal 10 inch i think, well worth thinking about getting smaller one thankyou mickycoin  mick ;D ;D

The Garrett Ace is quite collapsible and light, so I would say it would be good for kids. The 150 model was £126 from Regton when I bought mine.

i would agree re garrett ace. whether  a 150 or 250. the stem collapses so well, that i can use it at my height [6'4"] and my nephew aged 7 who's 4'6"'

another advantage is as the juniors grow, so the stem can be altered - plus its very lightweight.

i agree with the replies there mick would probably suggest the 250 only as it has a better setup  and this would help train the little ones better plus not have to dig much iron.#
a little more pricey but still a sub £200 machine great adult back up easy  to hear sound a bell .
try amazon ...
they must be pretty good as they never turn up used . if they do think 70 to 80 for 150ace
to 100 for 250ace

ther emay be opportunites to acquire grant funding for such a project development. try looking at the money for youth programmes, or the youth opportunity funding streams.

your local council has  a grants officer, which can help you identify grants. make sure you emphasise, the aspects of education, recording our history and equality of opportunity.

hi all just to update on the kids machine we settled for the garret ace 250, got  it for £100, 18months left on the warranty, will keep you up to date when they make there first finds,  cant wait  micky coin mick ;D ;D

I recently bought a Fisher F2 as a  stand by machine , it is so light its unbelievable , also it is so easy to use , its on a par with the Ace 250, that combination, sounds just what your looking for.

unfortunately,the one i had was broke  :'( but i bought a good old fashioned cheapy from maplins and it does the job. lol
tis a cheapy 25 quid one lol.. looks tacky,is tacky, is embarrassing.. but who cares lol  ;)
