had a play around with electrolysis last night was pleased with the outcome , finally dated a few coins that have been unknown , 2 cartwheel pennies dated 1806 and 1807 Smiley they came up lovely and a few other george coins ......was sat out in the kitchen for 3 hours lol

Ummmm! not sure what your electrolysis is doing to your coins Cheesy because they only made Cartwheel pennies in one year and that was 1797 Cheesy
Al! the salt only acts to improve conduction so a teaspoon full in 1/2 a pint of water should do it.

sounds like they are 4th issue pennys if george 3rd,,cartwwheel pennys have a thick outer edge and as geoff says minted in 1797

The pennys of those dates are pretty big, just not as big as a carwheel. Still nice to be able to date them though Smiley
