Hi All

Today I found what I believe to be a pewter container, which to me looks like a snuff type of box. Its oval in shape and has the words John Pugh, the date 1900 and then the words Mountain Ash on the lid.

quick google appears to link Mountain Ash to Wales, does this mean anything to anyone?

Sorry no picture at the moment as having issues with the mobile.

Love to see a photo of that - we used to formerly have a DW member of the same name.

A photo will decide if its a tobacco or pill box - my moneys on tobacco.

Interesting find

Mountain Ash is a town north of Cardiff. John Pugh was a conductor for the Treorchy male voice choir who are known to have performed at mountain ash in the early 20th century.

Try this one Wink
It's certainly not pewter, by the look of it I would of said it's a copper alloy. You say its a "container", do you mean it has a top and bottom? or are you guessing that this is the lid from a box of some sort?
Only having this photo of the front to go on I would have said it was a horse brass with either the name of the saddler or farmer on it.

Now that rings bells.  Tradesmen of old, horse and cart sort, always had a plaque or similar on the side of the cart.
How about that one for an idea.

Val

On second thoughts, if it's only as big as a snuff box, it would be big enough.
