Sorry for the large pic I found this today deep on some pasture, I have posted on a facebook page where someone suggested it may be a bag seal.
However and this just may be my suspicious mind someone else has offered to take it off me even though it's not worth anything to go on a lead sundial they found, am I being suspicious or do they know something I don't.
Any ideas much appreciated.

The part cross, bottom left, could be interesting.
Still haven't worked out how to do a link but have a look for

It's a site dedicated to crosses. If you tap on a cross it takes you to a page telling you where, when and how it was used.
The nearest I could see with rounded ends was a consecration cross put on churches when they were built.

looks a bit like a Byzantine document seal? they liked crosses of that type and used lead and cord to seal documents in 7th century I believe (as did the romans)...but its just a guess
