Great report Neil and thanks all for another great day.

That denarius should look geat underneath the concretion. It's Trajan, but not sure of the reverse, possibly this one maybe close:

Great report Neil  Wink. It was a glorious day - blue sky and sunshine.

A number of coins and artefacts from Roman to present day were found - a superb selection.

Nothing special came my way today, but the weather was beautiful enough to bask in during the afternoon - with one or two members taking the opportunity for a snooze  Cheesy

Well done Admin and Stewards - another well organised rally.

I think the denarius says CAESAR TRAIAN DAC GERMANICUS AUG.. (caesar Trajan dacius germanicus augustus [ceasar trajan defeater of dacia and germania]) the reverse says PATRI COS 11 (father of the country and consul for a second year

That means it was minted in 120 ad or thereabouts.

I think!

Thanks to all for a nice day and to whomever organised the dig, some real friendly and knowledgeable people I met today.
Unfortunately I live up to my name with the exception of "the best milk bottle top in the world" IFOUNDNOTHING!.
I'm waiting with white ears and a red head for the next DW rally.

well done everyone. It's been great to read about the day and view the finds accordingly.

that's a beautiful denarii you got there, Ceri,
nice roman bronze find Neil, you are certainly on a roll.
Casa's decorated spindle whorl is a lovely example of craftsmanship,

For me though the find of the day has to be the very unusual 5 pellet token, by WBM. We know very little about them and look forward to reading more about it in due course.

Great stuff guys and well done to all - particularly WBM, [who came up trumps with the site at very short notice], Taff, Geoff, Ray and the ever relaiable stewards on making the day a huge success.

DW is the number 1 detecting site in Wales, long may it continue.

A big 'Thank You' to all at DW for organising such a great Rally. You even provided the glorious weather for us! It was also a pleasure to put faces to some of the names on the DW site.
Congrats to all the finders of those exciting coins and artifacts.Yes,it's strange how stuff tends to come up in the late afternoon when most have given up and gone home.Perhaps Mother Earth needs to warm up a bit before she gives up her treasure.
My only finds were an 1865 Vicky penny and a small mis-shapen coin which could be anything-some-one said it could be Roman.I've done a soft lead pencil rubbing over it which brings up patterns which the eye dosn't always see,but although there is a pattern, nothing discernable.

Excellent write up and photos.Although I saw some of the finds yesterday it is great to see a lot more today on the rally report.Gives me hope and inspiration.
My first big rally and I wasn't disappointed, had a wonderful time!Looking forward to the next one. Thanks again,
