Alan it looks like a half penny? Edward III has some very crude ones.

I agree with Dale, if the size is right (should be 14-15mm). Edward III halfpenny of the third (florin) coinage, London mint (Spink 1557).

thank you both for the time taken to help ID this coin. It is much appreciated indeed.

The coin is 15mm, so is definitely a halfpenny.

The Doc's the kiddie though, its always good for him to confirm.
