Title: Help with ID on Roman please
Post by: herbie on September 03, 2013, 12:56:33 PM
Hello Folks

Can anyone help me out with an ID on this Roman Please? I think the reverse is either VIRTVS EXERCITAS or HOC SIGNO VICTOR ERIS, mintmark CONSP and emperor either Arcadius or Honorius, any further help much appreciated.
17mm diameter.

Cheers
Herbie

I think it is this one:-

Sear 4256 Honorius AE3. VIRTVS EXERCITI, Honorius standing facing, being crowned by Victory standing left beside him.

Certainly if you look at wildwinds and search for Virtvs Exerciti, look at the 5th example - that's a late coin for round here.

Cheers Probono, I had managed to decide it was Honorius, turns out the mintmark is CONS officina GAMMA instead of CONSP.
I think I'm getting a bit better at Id'ing them, but it takes me ages..... just have to keep on practising :)
