Hi, found this little chappy a couple of days ago. It's about 2" high, and a bit green.
Any idea which King it is, and what it was used for? My guess would be a Charles.

Nice find Wink what's on the reverse Dave? I was thinking a royalist badge, but I have never seen a facing bust type before, is it possible a loop has snapped of the top of the crown

Certainly looks like a loyal to Charlie item - Love It

Quality find - whats it made of?

Hi Dale / Neil,

My guess would be bronze as the material, I've had a close look, the back is flat, I can't see any obvious pin catch marks, but at the very bottom it has been snapped off something or something has been snapped off it. That's the only mounting / fixing I can see (the top of the crown looks intact with no breakage marks).

It came out of the ground covered in thick sticky clay mud, and I only gave it a second look because of the crown shape. It wasn't until I gave it a good wash that I could see all the great detail. I guess it will be my parting shot for 2013. Lets hope 2014 starts as well.

I've taken a better photo, and you can see where there was something attached at the bottom of the bust

Dave it looks to have some age as the patina has formed, but then lost by farming chemical's?
All though it looks like Charles 1st id expect some chin hair going into a point but your item don't seem to have this, plus the facing bust is still confusing they are usually side on. Its possible its some sort of mount in the form of a King, a friend of mine is a massive Charles 1st collector of all items I will get him to take a look.

A few months back I had a email what I would have loved to of posted, but I couldn't as it not my item to show off.......... but it was a singed hand written letter from Charles 1st asking prince Rupert (I think) for extra cavalry to travel from Monmouth to Bristol as his people are turning against him, plus it was waxed sealed!
il get back to you Smiley

Well he got straight back to me and Dylan you are possibly right Charles 2nd Grin he said if you look at a high grade milled crown coin of Charles 2nd you will see his moustache kicks up on the ends, your badges moustache kicks up on the ends also.. he said if it was Charles 1st he would expect the pointed chin hair....
He thinks its a cast base metal restoration of the monastery supporters badge around 1660
Also the pointed collars on his shirt match that of his hammered coinage.

That's the information he gave me over the phone, but with out it in hand its hard to say......PHEW that took some remembering Wink
