Title: Plough hunt Post by: simon c on March 09, 2009, 09:40:14 PM Went out detecting on saturday, and had a few good finds,as i was searching back towards the main road i caught sight of someone at the field gate,he proceded to climb over the gate and walked towards me,i walked over to him and said hello,he greeted me and then asked if i would be able to have a look for a lost plough part which he had recently lost while ploughing one of his fields,ok i said can't today but i can call and have a look tomorrow, fine he said i'll pay you if you do,no i said if i can have permission to detect your fields that will be payment enough,to which he seemed happy with.
Called up to see him on Sunday, and i could'nt have picked a worse day,Rain, sleet and snow showers all day, anyway the farmer showed me the field and described the plough part,so i set out on a 4 hour search of the field,as it was fresh ploughed the signals were'nt great, but a lot of iron was coming through, continued around the most obvious area's and no plough part, got to 3.30pm and decided to head back to the car, while standing there pondering the thought of returning to the farm empty handed,i decided to have one last go,just when i was about to give up all hope,i received a very faint signal,so i decided to dig it,looking down i could just make out a black painted peice of metal, after some serious spade work out came the plough part. I called back to see the farmer who was over the moon as the part would have cost about £100 to replace,he then wellcomed me to call again and search the rest of the farm,so another happy landowner, and a good few more acres for me to search. ; Title: Re: Plough hunt Post by: Tafflaff (Rob) on March 09, 2009, 10:13:21 PM well done fella , good advert for the hobby!

Title: Re: Plough hunt Post by: Al.Thepastfinder, ( Alan ) on March 10, 2009, 04:08:17 PM nice ones peoples,
i too had to look for a stainless steel plough share for one of my famers a few years ago, it got found before he left the field, but news of it travelled far and some of my farmers from miles away had heard about it, got me a couple of new farms too, its good P.R. work for us besides being able to give something back to them, thats the best part. Alan Title: Re: Plough hunt Post by: Kev on March 10, 2009, 04:23:22 PM great story Simon . got to keep in with the farmers haven't we . ;D

It always pays to look for lost machine parts over the last two yeats I with a few others have been called out by the same farmer to locate lost machinery parts Title: Re: Plough hunt Post by: simon c on March 10, 2009, 05:44:40 PM Thanks for all the replies lad's,hope the farmer does'nt put the word about to much lol ;D,don't know if i could handle another search like that for a bit.
